Feeling Blue

Dear Katie & Kelly,

I’ve been having lots of problems lately with feeling blue. I don’t think I’m depressive because I can always get out of bed in the morning and get the kids off to school, and myself to work. But I’m always late to things and tired all the time and everything seems to exhaust me. I think I’m a Fun Freedom or an Organic Freedom. I’ve often struggled throughout my life to get things done on time, is this just my personality type, exhaustion, or am I depressed?

Dear Sad,

Well there is only one way to find out which one it is … systematically rule each out! First, get a physical to make sure it’s not a medical issue. Second, carve out two weeks where you can go to bed insanely early like 9 or 10pm. Write a To Do list for each day and cross things off throughout the day or when you’re writing your To Do list for the following day (including personal items). At the end of two weeks if you’re feeling better and getting things done, maybe you’re not a Fun or an Organic Freedom. If you find this last assignment unhelpful, then I’d suggest talking to a therapist. Sometimes just talking to someone can help you figure out what’s ailing you.
