Kristin — an Organic Freedom and our intrepid intern — has been talking about this website for about 3 years now and that’s about how long it takes for an Organic Freedom to get through to a Classic Freedom. It’s not that Organic Freedoms are better at finding really cool things — they are — it’s just that they find so many things cool it’s hard to take them seriously at first. I’ve found that the ones that stand the test of time are the penultimate ones. And Cupcakes and Cashmere fits the bill.

This website is nothing a Classic would likely discover on their own or visit regularly because it’s not practical to my daily life — it provides fashion tips and recipes for things that are the equivalent of baking cupcakes just for the fun of it. But, the thing is, she REALLY nails both subjects and even this boring pragmatic Classic is left realistically thinking, “Ooh, maybe I’ll whip up lemon meringue cupcakes after buying a sequined flowy dress that I’ll wear to lounge about on my freshly ironed bed.” Not likely to happen more than once every 10 years in a Classic’s life — tops — but contrary to popular belief, we do like to use our imaginations from time to time.

I had thought what sold me on this website was an easy recipe for chocolate croissant, but I couldn’t find the recipe anywhere on her website so I’m either imagining this recipe or it wasn’t catalogued. Regardless, I like the website because I can quickly glance at it and get neat ideas for what to buy clothing wise to feel current. Her fashion tips are tangible in a way that Elle & Vogue never are. Plus, I appreciate all of the details she puts into the website — as in where to buy things. The recipes to me are a bit too whimsy but since I almost never produce my own whimsy, it’s fun to live vicariously through hers.

I imagine she’s an Organic or a Fun. In fact, I think she’s a Fun that appeals to Organics. Her details are something that a Fun would provide but her whimsy makes it impossible for her to be a Classic. But, there’s something terribly Organic about her entire website and Funs are so practical so I’m left wondering if my verdict is correct. Organics, Funs and Smart Freedoms would be the ones most likely to enjoy her posts. But, I bet there are a few Classics like me who like to live vicariously through other personality types or at least grab inspiration from their imaginations!

Oh and my imaginary chocolate croissant? Frozen pastry dough, dethawed, cut into small squares, place piece of chocolate bar in the middle of the square, then layer some pastry dough on top, a little egg wash, put in the oven and voila … Pain au Chocolat for breakfast or just because! Who says I don’t have whimsy??
