Harry Barker’s BedrollI was going to title this “Dog & Cat Beds” to maximize interest but then I realized that a place named Harry Barker can’t double as a cat retailer. Though when it comes to beds, I’d imagine they’re after the same thing — a nice, soft, clean place to lay their weary head after a tough day? I first discovered this website on One Kings Lane ( a great place for discount designer home decor) and have been plotting ever since which bed I’m going to buy my surly mini-schnauzer, Hattie.

I take that back. I know the precise bed I want — rectangle, brown toile, medium — but as the price tag is $152 and there’s no love lost between my husband and my dog, or rather, she loves him but he gives her the cold shoulder, I’ve been stuck plotting and waiting for another One Kings Lane sale. That is until I saw their bedrolls for less than half the price.Dream Dog Bed for Hattie

The bedrolls are cheaper and make more sense because it’s heck of a lot easier to clean a bedroll than a bed plus an insert. I wish they had them in the toile but the stripe is sporty cute. Hattie’s birthday is coming up in November so perhaps I’ll use that as an excuse — maybe in brown or orange.

Oh and I almost left off the best part. Harry Barker’s founder, Carol Perkins was a former model, who made her Broadway debut as a fire-eater with Penn & Teller, and started the company on her kitchen table in a NYC loft when she became homebound due to a battle with a rare brain tumor.  She made dog bed, toys and robes for friends as a form of therapy. A very inspiring story.
