The Oasis in the Messy Desert
Monday, February 8, 2010 This is what it looks like right before I head for bed. And what it looks like for five seconds in the morning. My brother-in-law has been asking for progress on the home front. That's the problem with these Classic types...they're always wanting do to do more, always onto the NEXT thing on their list and right now I am basking in my happy place. I have lost five pounds. Yeah, I know that I started at 161 and I'm only down to 158, but I'm counting my Christmas high of 164. Sorry, but wouldn't you?
Yes I need to add some vegetables to the diet. Yes I need to do some kind of exercise. But I have managed to organize, clean and maintain my sink/dishwasher/stove area on my kitchen. Yes, its only one small area in a room that is always somewhat chaotic, but for right now its all I can manage and I am pleased at the maintenance.
At first when my husband noticed that I was taking a dishwasher shift, he slacked off, but when I kept doing mine, he took up the slack again. So whatever is happening, we've got some Smart Organic synchronicity going on and its keeping the most trafficked part of the kitchen spotless.
THIS is what the rest of it looks like. One of my daughter's dresser is in the kitchen. Now onto the rest of the ROOM. Oh, and I'm going to be trying to wash the color out of my hair with some dishwashing detergent like Dawn. It's a tip from awesome PixiesDidIt! reader and friend Melissa Brown Lawrence. Back in elementary school, her husband Todd used to get into trouble on the school bus to Ruffing Montessori. Now he's a sweet dad out in the New Jersey suburbs. (And frankly, he was a sweet kid, just SUPER HIGH energy.) He's having trouble figuring out his type...my guess? The spontaneous, energetic type called Fun.
Oh and I cut out the Family Circle diet for battling belly bulge.(It is a surprisingly cool magazine for family types...it arrived in my mail to replace a magazine that folded) But I have not brought it upstairs. Basically I bought an avocado (on the list of belly blasting foods) and put it on french bread with Boursin Cheese and Brunschwager. Don't think that's what they had in mind, but, hey I counted the calories! Baby steps....

I like the clean side of the kitchen!! Seeing that just sent a wave of serenity thru my body. Speaking of which, I was so stressed out all weekend at home with the kid, but after he went to bed and me and my wife cleaned up the mess that is our apt, we both felt completely stress free. who knew? Because the kid makes a mess at all times, I had gotten used to cleaning up after him once a day at the end of the day, but that just means that I'm stressed out most of the day -- so my take away is to clean up after him at all times so that I can keep my sanity. make sense? Feed me some Pixie Guidance!!
Oh -- as for the rest of your kitchen, what if you moved out the children's dresser out of the kitchen and into its rightful home in their bedroom? bet that might make the kitchen a lot less stressful, no? just sayin'.
I worry that you will be spending all your time cleaning up after him instead of just enjoying him! BUT, yes, I would clean up more often, especially since it give you such peace.
I can't believe I woke up this morning, had my coffee and then DID THE DISHES...I'm freaking myself out here.
Yes I think I'm going to move her clothes upstairs. We used to need them on the first floor because when the kids were little it was easier to have their clothes within easy reach because of spills, diaper blow outs, etc... I always thought I'd have another kid by now to justify the kid dresser in the kitchen...
