Okay, Delaware Doesn’t Totally Suck

I was all set to tell you that after our initial disappointment, Delaware didn’t turn out to be such a horrible place. Walter kept saying how nice the beach is, and frankly, it was. Nice and wide, even if we had to ask permission to fly a kite or play ball. (And even though after a while we got tired of asking the lifeguards to turn down their music, if we did actually ask them multiple times a day, they would turn it down.)

But a beach is a beach is a beach. And while this one had more rules than others, what makes a beach a good beach was all there. Sunny days. Warm water. Cool breezes. And the real thing that makes a beach so awesome is spending it with people you love. Time to relax and enjoy the good life. So, we did. Eventually the creosote smell from the basement pylons began to dissipate. We might have killed off that part in our brain that smells creosote, but hey, there are worse things. And we had fabulous dinners, killer sunsets, shimmery water, star gazing, and a lively game of Qwirkle (Click here if you want to buy it). And if you don’t know what Qwirkle (Click here if you want to know more about it), it’s THE game for all age groups. Like a combination of Dominos and Scrabble, but without all those annoying words — perfect for adults who may have tied a few on and kids who haven’t mastered reading yet.

Oh, other thing we discovered at Bethany Beach — Google Earth search. Maybe I mentioned that already? Regardless, highly recommended to check out your beach property before you say yes. This way maybe we would have known about the creosote coated pylons? Sigh. Maybe not, but we did see the bad hair plug job on the dunes before hand, but just figured it would have filled in by the time we reached the beach. It had not. But, can’t mess up the water at least.

Oh, but that’s right. I was going to tell you how Delware didn’t totally suck. And it didn’t. Truly. A lovely wonderful vacation. But then I arrived at our friends house in Malibu and it pretty much blew most of my other vacations (in my lifetime) out of the water. Its truly not a fair comparison, though, so I’ll end with this: Bethany Beach is lovely this time of year. 🙂
