This is what I see in my living room

You’re going to think I’m crazy, but when there is chaos reigning around my life and I have no time to organize, I concentrate on what I can see right in front of me. Small little pockets of organization among the chaos. See how calming this photo is? This is what I love about having a home — the personal touches.

This is probably most true for all Organics, Fun Freedoms and Classic Freedoms, but it’s usually not first on the list for all. Practical will almost always trump personal for everyone, pretty much except Organic Freedoms, and even then, some of those won’t be able to stand what is below my small little oasis.

This is what my mother sees!

A little terrifying right? I’m sure my Organic Structure mom is a bit embarrassed that I’m showing it to you like this. But there is an important lesson to be learned. The easiest way to get organized is to one: Start small. Focus on one corner first, and then build out from there.

Every organizational effort usually creates a mess like the one you see above. This mess bugs me, but I know I will get to it when I have time and energy and impetus for it. I don’t berate myself for having it. So Two: Don’t beat yourself up, no matter what.

However, if you cannot sit still looking at a mess like mine and don’t have time to finish your organization project? Stuff it in a closet!! Yes it’s not ideal, but organizing the easy way is not about ideal, it’s about “good enough for now.” So here’s our third and most important lesson for organizing the easy way: Hide the mess!

Yes, most organizing experts will tell you that hiding the mess is a serious no, no. But real life is too short and long for doing what you should do. It’s constantly moving and me and you will get to this mess in due time, hopefully before another one takes it’s place.
