Or is it a Bentley? Swaine Adeney Brigg’s umbrellas are THE classic umbrella. I don’t know if you can be a true gentleman unless you own one. (See photo of Princes William & Harry at left.) These babies are handcrafted with a single piece of fine wood for the handle — you have your pick between Ash, Chestnut, Hickory, Maple, Oak, Cherry or Whangee — oh and the canopy comes in either nylon or silk — yes, SILK. I didn’t even know umbrellas were made of anything but vinyl. They’re not for ever personality type for a very specific reason. But, I know just who’d adore the mysterious sounding Whangee.

A Smart Structure would think the Whangee was the coolest of cool gifts. Each one is as unique as they are. As to who would give this type of umbrella? Umm, not a Fun or a Classic. The people most likely to gift it would be Smarts. I realize you might be scratching your head thinking that naturally every Classic in the world would own THE Classic umbrella and here’s where you’d be wrong. The Whangee

Craftmanship isn’t cheap. £250.00. Yes that’s in pounds, so essentially double it and there you go. $500. So you see, this is no ordinary brollie. I see Smarts as the only personality type who wouldn’t blink at this purchase. I could also see Funs and Organic Freedoms managing to find a way to justify the purchase if fashion is their joie de vivre. Organic Structures might feel too frivolous making the purchase and find it a bit stodgy to boot. Ironically, the ones who this umbrella fits to a T, might have the most trouble purchasing it. Classics.

But, here’s the calculation that Classic Freedomss need to do to get over this hump. Think of ALL of the umbrellas you and your family members will purchase throughout your lifetime and how many of them will break with the slightest wind. It’s kind of why you buy a Tuxedo in your twenties if you know you’re going to go to a lot of black tie events. It just makes fiscal sense not to continue to rent them. Now, Classic Structures … I just don’t know if you can get over the hump because you most likely already know that Totes will replace your broken umbrella for $5 postage and handling over a lifetime. But, then, sadly you’ll never be considered a true gentleman (or woman.)

But for the rest of us who are willing to part with the cash and take care of the incredible craftmanship and thing of pure beauty, you can purchase your Brigg online or in the store on your next trip across the pond.
