“Get a hit of the Gilded Age by Painting bookshelves—or even just the edges—in shimmering gold. Pair with saturated reds or navy blues for a palatial feel, or head in a more modern direction with pastels.” As I looked at this gorgeous photo from In Style’s January 2009 “Extra Splash In a Flash,” I though “Pastels?” As a Classic, this one had me laughing out loud as I have NO idea how I would end up making this look good in my own home.

Organic Freedoms this is for you guys. You’ll know what color and where to do this and then you’ll artfully arrange the pictures and objet d’arts like they did in this photo “just so.” It’ll be one of those whimsy projects that you’ll start just before you’re supposed to leave to pick up the kids and forget about them for an hour. But, at least it will be done right. Organic Structures, you could tackle this one as well (and pick the kids up on time.) Funs ask for your Organic friend’s perspective or just make sure you consult someone about color and placement. Classics, it’s kind of an outside of the box idea for you (ditto for Smarts) but when done right, it could be that extra kick your room needs.

And as a random tip to make your life easier, I learned something from a fabulous designer, Traci Alleman, which is … ALWAYS, test out a paint color before committing and check it out in different light. Take it into corners of the room and see it at different times of day. This is hard for me because I want things done yesterday, but nothing is worse than living with a paint color you don’t love (I did it for a year and half in my old place.)

Best for Organics, good for Funs
