Type Gifting? Martha Almost Pulls It Off

Well I did expect the gifts suggestions to be somewhat on the expensive side, but so far, Gayle and her $700 robes are still ahead. Martha’s ideas are downright thrifty in comparison!

What I like about this gift issue is they break the ideas down into different “personalities” and frankly the idea of these categories could line up with PixieTypes, except that, well they don’t really keep with the program. Craft Fanatics tend to be Classics or Funs. (Other types can and do craft, it’s just a very tactile activity that Funs and Classics are more drawn too.)

But frankly everyone can use a cool looking pincushion or some attractive bamboo sewing tools (Smarts and Organics like to have those kind of things out in the open so they don’t forget where they are, plus attractive tools were made for these types.) Plus I love the idea of a knitting kit for a chic red wool shrug. This would be the gift to give your Smart or Organic friend who has said they were thinking about picking up knitting (although, who knows if they will, this kind of bite sized project will help them focus into starting.)  Also loved the bird needlepoint sampler. Another kit to get people going, or a nice gift for a needlepoint fanatic.

She goes through categories such as Design Saavy, but frankly I wasn’t that in awe. And an actual Incurable Collector tends to actually collect things and besides the baby spoons (this is a gift?) this page just featured a few more cool things that seemed to be in the color red. (And the suggestion to give people gift tags as a gift? Um, I dont’ thinks so.) The Food Lover section had some cool ideas, including French Macaroons, and a books by the witty food writer, M.F.K. Fisher who was featured on PixiesDidIt! this summer by our food blogger Amanda Darrach Fillipone.

Other highlights include a cool wall bubble aerium, a coffee table book, metallic tape measures, elizabethbauerdesign.com, and one helluva cool mohair throw that I wish I could be buying for my sister-in-law, but at $290 bucks, I’ll leave that for Aunt Martha to get her until I’m a billionaire, or frankly even a millionare…but none of the “girls” on my list should be surprised if they get one of these. Gorgeous, classic and funky design and only $50 bucks! Navajo Chief design scarf. Obviously that is a pretty good universal price point because, well Real Simple’s got 100 of those kind of ideas. Tomorrow I’ll scope it out for you.
